Make Change Happen Collective

We meet monthly, we share the change we want to make, and we set the goals that get us to the next session.

Why a group helps

Most change stalls in private. You lose momentum, or you finish something and have no idea whether it works, or the idea quietly slides down the list behind everything else.

A group fixes the parts of that you cannot fix alone. Someone will encourage your progress, what is working and what could help. And you watch other group members solve the problems you are stuck on, which is usually faster than solving them by yourself.

What you get out of it

  • Momentum, because there is a date in the calendar and people expecting you
  • Considered feedback on your progress, given with care rather than scored
  • Practice at giving and receiving feedback, which sharpens your life more than you expect
  • A sense of how other people actually make change happen, not how they say they do.
  • People who understand what you are trying to do

Who it is for

  • People at any stage of change, from the first contemplation to something nearly finished
  • All change is welcome.
  • People who want feedback and are ready to give it thoughtfully in return
  • Anyone whose ideas have gone quiet and need a reason to start again

How a session runs

Numbers are capped at eight so there is room for everyone to be heard. I facilitate online and in person.

  • Opening meditation to arrive and settle
  • Goal check-in, so last month’s intentions get spoken aloud
  • A short writing exercise, five minutes
  • One member shares their change, up to 2,000 words
  • Feedback and discussion from the group
  • A second writing exercise, ten minutes
  • Setting goals for the month ahead

Only one person shares their change each month, so you will know well ahead of time when your turn is coming. Nobody is put on the spot.

The practical details

  • Eight changemakers maximum
  • Online via Zoom, monthly, in the evening
  • Facilitated by Alex Grantham
  • All genres, all stages, for all people.

Prefer to write in the same room as other people? The workshops and retreats at ARC Studio in Bellingen run in person, with no critique and no commitment to come back.

Join the collective

Places are limited to eight writers per session so there is room for everyone to be heard.
